Kelly Cowan has been working on her art full time since 1993. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions in Washington, DC, New York, New Jersey and Maine, including shows organized by The Center for Maine Contemporary Arts, The Center for Photography at Woodstock and WPA/Corcoran.

She has worked in photography, digital arts, printmaking and book arts. She has studied and attended workshops at a number of leading institutions including the Corcoran, The New School for Social Research and The Maine Photographic workshops.

She has a Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, where she studied English Literature. She also completed additional course work in a Master of Arts of International Studies program.

She has traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, and Africa. She has pursued an informal study of art history and contemporary art through the constant exposure of art during her travels. Experiencing and seeing, she believes, are just as essential as creating in the life process of the artist.
